| Broad River Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department responded today at approximately 4 p.m. to a report of traumatic injuries in the 3200 block of NC 9.
Upon arrival, crews found a patient in an area with difficult terrain that required an extended rescue operation. Fire and rescue personnel worked carefully to access, stabilize, and remove the patient from the scene. Due to the location and conditions, the extraction took approximately two and a half hours to complete.
Broad River was assisted by Garren Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Fairview Volunteer Fire Department, and Black Mountain Fire Department. In total, approximately 16 to 18 responders from four agencies worked together during the incident.
The terrain in this area has become more hazardous following Tropical Storm Helene, creating additional challenges for responders operating in steep, unstable, or hard-to-reach locations. Despite those conditions, crews were able to complete the rescue without any injuries to emergency personnel.
